What You See On The Khasab Dhow Cruise

Khor Sham Fjord

Khor Sham runs 16 to 17 km inland between the Hajar Mountains, and its deep, calm water is why people call Musandam the Norway of Arabia. The villages of Nadifi, Qanah, Maqlab and Sham have no road access, so supplies and school children still arrive by boat.

Dolphins In The Fjord

Bottlenose and humpback dolphins feed in Khor Sham all year. They often ride the bow wave, so the front of the dhow is the spot for photos.

Telegraph Island

Telegraph Island, known locally as Jazirat Al Maqlab, sits deep inside Khor Sham. The British built a telegraph repeater station here in 1864 on the cable line linking India and Britain, and you can still see the ruins from the deck. The dhow anchors nearby for swimming and snorkeling.

Seebi Island

Seebi Island sits at the far end of the fjord. It’s the quieter of the two swim stops, with reef fish around its rocky edges.

Documents You Need At The Al Dara Border

Bring your original documents. The border does not accept photocopies.

UAE Residents

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months from the travel date
  • Emirates ID valid for at least 90 days for some nationalities. If your nationality gets a UAE visa on arrival, less validity is accepted
  • If you hold more than one passport, bring the one you used to enter the UAE

Dependent visa holders must travel with their sponsor. Pending or canceled UAE visas are not accepted.

Tourist Visa Holders

Most tourists on a UAE visit visa can join. Some nationalities pay AED 50 for the Oman visa at the border. Send us your nationality on WhatsApp before you book and we will confirm.

Is The Khasab Tour Good For Families?

Yes, it works for all ages. Children from 4 to 10 years pay AED 465, and infants under 4 pay AED 235 because they take their own seat in the vehicle. Child car seats are available on request. Life jackets are available on board, and swimming is optional, so younger children can stay on the shaded deck. There is a toilet and shower on board, and all food is halal. Tell us your children’s ages when you book so the crew can prepare accordingly.

Our dhows hold 15, 30 or 60 guests, but we usually board around 10 to 30 people, so there is plenty of space on deck. Numbers can be higher on public holidays, but we always stay below full capacity.

What To Bring On The Khasab Tour
